‘Drop Down’ or ‘Drop Deck’ Longboards are perfect for Downhill Racers, Freeriders, Commuters and beginners.
The decks of Drop Down Longboards are lowered, so they sit beneath the trucks instead of over the top of them.
This design provides a lower centre of gravity, making the Longboard extraordinarily stable and easy to push.
The lower deck remains smooth and stable at speed eliminating the wobble typical of top-mounted decks.
Drop Throughs ideal for beginner and intermediate downhill riders.
The foot is closer to the ground with a lower deck, meaning you can push yourself further and with less fatigue than a higher Longboard such as a pintail.
Stability and ease of pushing make drop-downs excellent for commuting and covering long distances.
Drop Down Longboards are easier to push into slides and drifts and straighten up after the core moves of downhill free-riders. That’s why you often see them riding drop decks.
Drop Down Longboards are suitable for beginners who want to learn to cruise. The stability ensures easy learning cruising and fewer mishaps, especially when turning.
The drop-down profile gives the rider a solid base to wedge the feet against, useful for free-riders keeping their feet on the board and beginners trying to learn.
In addition, the drop prevents feet from wandering over the wheels, a real possibility with drop-through mounted decks.
Drop Downs are all twin tipped with cutouts which ensure there’s no wheel bite, where the underside of the deck touches a moving wheel.
The cutouts prevent wheel bite no matter how much the rider leans into the deck.
The only disadvantages with Drop Throughs are they are not the sharpest turners and can require some effort to execute a turn correctly. Drop Throughs and Pintails turn sharper. You sacrifice turning ability for a lower, more stable deck.
Drop Throughs are very stiff, making them responsive, which is good for freeride sliding and drifting but is harder on the joints than more flexible longboards.
If you’re interested in progressing your Longboarding skills to Downhill & Freeriding or want a solid board for commuting, then a Drop Through Longboard is precisely what you need.
